Victorian Day School Trip - March 2023 - The Rural Life Living Museum
Over the spring term, Year 1 have been learning all about the Victorians. To consolidate their learning, we visited The Rural Life Living Museum in Farnham, where the children were able to re-enact a day at a Victorian School, a Victorian Washday and learn all about 'Housework before Electricity'. It was a brilliant hands-on experience for the children who were really able to showcase what they had learnt through discussions with the museum staff.
Look at all the fun we had in the album below.

Science Week - Spring 2023
We had a very busy British Science Week 2023, exploring this years theme 'Connections'.
On Monday we had a visit from the Newbury and District Agricultural Society, who brought with them a menagerie of full size wooden animals to educate the children all about where food comes from. Angles and Saxons met Clover the wooden goat, and learnt all about milk that goats produce, each having a turn to milk her. We also learnt about how milk can be used to make cheese and had a taste of goats cheese.
On Tuesday we had a visit from AS Creatives, who provided an interactive assembly showing how the Stone Age discovery of ways of making and manipulating fire led to a whole series of scientific 'moments' across the ages. they then held a workshop per year group exploring a particular scientist and the connections of their work and everyday life. Year 1 learnt about Lyda Newman, who patented the first modern-day hairbrush by moving away from animal fibres and towards purpose-centred approaches. This linked to when the children were learning about Materials in Science.
On Wednesday we had a visit from a team of scientists from Pfizer. They did a workshop about 'Medicines and Me' which included; The importance of hygiene and staying well, what a medicine is and different forms of medicine, how they are manufactured and distributed.
On Thursday, each year group got to visit a 360' immersive experience in The Dome, a mobile digital planetarium. Angles and Saxons got to explore an Underwater Adventure, exploring under the sea wildlife and corals!
Pictures from each activity are in albums below.

Autumn 2022
Our Year 1 pupils have learnt so much over the Autumn term.
In September, the children started the year by creating self-portraits to help introduce themselves to their new teachers.
In Maths the children focused on really understanding numbers to ten - including practicing reading numbers as words, comparing numbers, place vale, number bonds and addition and subtraction.
In Science, they learnt all about seasons, starting off the topic by going on a walk to collect signs of Autumn, which Angles then sorted and used to create an Autumn tree picture.
In Topic, the children's learning was all about 'Where We Live', they learnt about different types of houses and went outside school to count how many of each type they could see.
