Computing

INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT

COMPUTING INTENT

At the core of our computing curriculum is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.  We aim to ensure that pupils become digitally literate.  They will be able to use and express themselves and communicate their ideas through information technology.  This will help them become active participants in a digital world at an appropriate level. Pupils will be taught to evaluate and apply information technology. They develop an understanding of how Information Technology can be used to solve problems and improve the world they live in. We will ensure that all pupils know how to keep themselves safe and understand the importance of behaving responsibly when using information and communication technology.  They will consider the impact of how they use this technology on others.

COMPUTING  IMPLEMENTATION

The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

COMPUTING IMPACT

At Clewer Green, the aim of our Computing provision will impact children in the following ways:

  • Pupils will be critical thinkers and able to understand how to make informed and appropriate digital choices.
  • Pupils will understand the importance that computing will have going forward, in both their educational lives and personal futures.
  • Pupils will understand how to balance time spent on technology and time spent away from it in a healthy and appropriate manner.
  • Pupils will show a clear progression of technical skills across the National Curriculum for Computing - computer science, information technology and digital literacy.
  • Pupils will be aware of Online Safety, including potential dangers, and understand how to be a responsible internet user.
  • Pupils will have an awareness of developments in technology and have an idea of how current technologies relate to one another.
