INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT

PE INTENT

Our PE curriculum aims to inspire our learners to succeed in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Through quality teaching of the National Curriculum, we support the children to be healthy and fit through a wide range of sports and physical activities. Our teaching will provide learners with extensive opportunities to become physically confident and to embed our school values in sporting events.

PE IMPLEMENTATION

Clewer Green recognises the vital contribution of physical education (PE) to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, as well as the role it can play in relation to a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development. Therefore:

  • Children have two, one hour PE lessons per week.
  • Children have at least one term’s coaching session per year with a WLP highly qualified coach. These sessions include Athletics, gymnastics, Invasion Games, Striking and Fielding, and Fundamentals.
  • Coaching sessions are also used to upskill teachers.
  • All Year 4 children have an annual swimming session (6 week block) taught by a qualified swimming coach.
  • Staff are supported in their teaching of PE through regular training in order to develop their skills.
  • The PLT is involved in the Windsor Steering Group which provides training and support on a regular basis.
  • Staff use resources and plans provided by Teach Active to encourage children to be more active outside of PE lessons.

PE IMPACT

P.E. and School Sport play a very important part in the life of Clewer Green. Through PE we wish to provide our children with the opportunities to be physically confident, develop fundamental sports skills and lead healthy lifestyles. We encourage our children to take part in competitive sports as well as to nurture respect, co-operation and fairness towards others. The positive effects of exercise and sport on mental health is taught through PE lessons.

At Clewer Green, we aim for our PE provision to impact our learners in the following ways;

  • To be able to understand the importance of being active and how this keeps all children happy and healthy
  • To respect others when playing sport and to value everyone’s contributions
  • To apply a range of knowledge and skills in fun and competitive sports
  • To share ideas about how children can improve their performance and value the performance of others
  • To be proud of what the children have achieved for themselves and to enjoy taking part in all sporting activities
  • To be motivated to improve their performance and to be inspired by role models
  • To have the courage to try new sports that the children haven’t tried before.
