Parent School Partnership
Here at Clewer Green, parents are seen as being a vital partner in the education of children. The children benefit immensely from parental support for what we do in school, and we actively encourage parents to be a part of our school community. There are a number of ways in which you can help, from hearing readers in school to accompanying the children on excursions away from school. For the safety and security of your children we do ask for volunteers to complete a DBS check.
A regular dialogue with parents is hugely important for us and we welcome parents to discuss any concerns with your class teacher. Obviously, if you have a query that can be answered quickly at drop off or pick up time, the teacher is available at the beginning and end of the day. If however, you have any concerns or information that you wish to share with us that are in more depth, we ask that you arrange an appointment with teachers. This is simply so that we can give your concerns the time that they deserve. Likewise, if your class teacher has any concerns that require a longer discussion, they will arrange a mutually convenient time with you.
Again, it is of great importance that you tell us of any issues that are happening at home that could be affecting the performance or behaviour of your child. Anything that you tell us along these lines will always be treated in the strictest confidence, but will allow us to provide appropriate support for your child.
There are several opportunities throughout the year for more formal meetings with the teachers. About six weeks in to the year, there is a Meet the Teacher Evening, where we can discuss how your child has settled in to the class, and you can advise the teacher of any important information that they may not have received as part of the transition arrangements from Nursery or Pre-School. In the second half of the Spring Term, there is a more formal Parent-Teacher meeting where we are able to discuss progress and you are able to see what your child has been learning which is preceded by a Mid-Year Report.
Finally, during the latter part of the Summer Term we hold a Celebration Evening, where parents are encouraged to come in and look at the work that your child has been doing throughout the year and for them to show you around their school and which class they will be moving in to after the summer break. Should you wish to discuss any aspects of your child’s very comprehensive End of Year Report we would ask that you do book a slot with the teacher at the follow up meeting that is held during the day.
At the end of every term we have a service at either All Saints Church, Dedworth or at St Andrew’s Church, Clewer. Parents are always welcome to attend these services. We also have a Carol Service, regular Class Assemblies, Concerts, Sports Day and various other occasions throughout the year where your support would be greatly appreciated. All of these events and any other news concerning the life of the school are mentioned in the newsletter which is sent out via email. We will also update you on events using email or text messages. Please also check book bags on a regular basis. If by some chance email fails to deliver, the newsletters are always posted on the School Website. We will also provide paper copies for after school clubs available from the office.
When you choose Clewer Green as your child’s school you automatically become a member of our very supportive parent association, the Friends of Clewer Green. Each year the committee is formed from volunteer parents and they work relentlessly to raise funds from a variety of events. The monies raised have helped to enhance the curriculum for the children in the school.
