DT project: The Year 3 Boat Building Competition - July 2025
The famous Year 3 boat competition took place this week on a sunny afternoon on the field (in a paddling pool!). Each pair of children had planned and built their boat from a range of materials and the design criteria was as follows:
- Needed to float for 1 minute
- Must have sides
- Able to hold 10 x £1 coins without sinking
To stand a chance of winning, the boat also needed to withstand "storms" provided by Mrs Lee.
Round 1 and everyone got to test their boats for the first time.
Boats that sank or let in a lot of water were eliminated then we had Round 2...
...and the semi-finals.
In the final, the Tudors boat narrowly beat the Stuarts boat after surviving a few storms on the way. Congratulations to our finalists!
